Non fiction Non Narrative Salinger

Reading this article really helped me connect to Salinger and understand what this book is about. In a sense, it really is like a diary of his life as a teen. He goes through a lot of what Holden does and now I can see where he is coming from. They both had a rough time in school and they both flunked out and ran away and such. The big thing though was that they were both good writers. I think that it is a really good idea how Salinger writes. It almost allows you to enter into Salinger's world through the eyes of someone else:)

  1. I also saw how Salinger was writing Holden sorta as himself. Good connection.

  2. I agree that its probably like a diary. That's gotta make you wonder how messed up Salinger was :)

  3. Holden didn't become a hermit though. Although in retrospect he may as well have been, he closed himself off from everyone, just as Salinger did.

  4. I agree with you. I think that a lot of what happened in the novel was what happened to Salinger as a teenager.

  12. MIssy I can't agree more. Holden is J.D. as a teenager. They are completely alike in every aspect. I like his writing style as well because it is through the eyes of someone else as you said
